ASSISTments is an intelligent tutoring and assessment tool that teachers in any area can employ for their classes. It was developed by professors at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Carnegie Melon. According to studies (see Research), this tool can be a great alternative to paper and pencil homework, in that it provides scaffolds and hints intelligently from student work and inputs. According to the tool’s wiki site (see below), teachers can create class webspaces and homework activities for students to work on outside of the class. This enables teachers to extend the class supports through the intelligent tutoring system outside of the classroom. The system also provides assessment information for teachers to use to help plan instruction for each student based on the assessments done within the ASSISTment System.
