Differentiates by: Readiness, Content, Process

iPods have been shown to have many robust capabilities to aid students in the classroom. While there are many possible areas for iPods to impact instruction, recent studies have shown promise for the iPod’s ability to help English language learners, or ELL, students improve their performance. Not only is the device portable and intuitive to use, it allows ELLs to access Audio textbooks, Voice Recording software for English practice and pronunciation, instant translator and dictionary services, as well as internet access.  The device offers different modalities for students to improve their language as well, with audio, video, and text based applications and services for students to use. Studies showed that ELL students were more engaged to work, felt more comfortable in lessons, and improved reading, listening, and comprehension scores over short periods. By helping students that struggle with English, iPods are able to allow ELLs access to the same material as their peers with their powerful and easy to use apps and interface, while also giving them alternatives for the learning process that fit their individual needs.
